WELLINGTON Bowling Club’s Thursday Triples league came to an end on March 12 which was won by the Robins as they overcame a valiant effort from the Wrens who grabbed a victory on the final game to secure a deserved second.
Coming into their final game against the Doves, Robins were only two points ahead of the Wrens, so they had to win it to be sure of retaining their top of the table position.
Pat Harvey, Sue Channon and skip Thelma Helps' Robins started slowly against Pauline Jayes, Liz May and skip Maggie Milton's Doves, but they settled to their task and moved ahead for a champions' victory by 11 shots to six.
Diana Dagg, June Anderson and Marguerite Nichols' Wrens played very well in their final game of the season against Carol Connor, Liz Copping and Angie Moore's Swallows. They made life very difficult for the unfortunate Swallows and moved ahead to win comfortably at 17-4 and with it secure the runners-up spot.
There were five members of the Robins' team in all in the shape of Monica Carter, Thelma Helps, Jane Hayes, Pat Harvey and Sue Channon. All teams played nine games through the indoor season.
Robins had won seven of the nine to give them 14 points, two clear of the Wrens tho took victory in six of their encounters. Their squad was made up of Diana Dagg, Suzanne Worth, June Anderson, Marguerite Nichols and Monica Waite. Liz May, Maggie Milton, Pauline Jayes, Janet Moore and Diane Sutton's Doves came in third with six points, while Angie Moore, Carol Connor, Liz Copping and Rosemary Small's Swallows were fourth.
