WELLINGTON are the winners of the inaugural West of England Premier League's Four Regions T20 Competition for Tier Three sides following a 47-run home win over Wiltshire side Swindon, writes David Derrick.

Swindon chose to bowl first on winning the toss and collected a wicket in the very first over without a run being scored.

Fifty-four silky runs came from the bats of Luke Desave (38 in 23 balls with three fours and two sixes) and Stian Smith's 45 in only 18 balls with seven fours and two maxima.

For the second successive day, Lakshan Edirisinghe showed what a versatile player he is as he amassed 121 not out off 51 balls with a dozen fours and eight sixes. Sam Whitefield, Jacob Hurry and James Hibbert all had a hand in seeing Wellington posted the supreme score of 242-5 in their 20 overs. For Swindon, Codling with 2-33 escaped the worst of the punishment handed out by the Wellington batters.

Seven of the nine Swindon wickets to fall went to spin. Arron Campbell's brace and one for Stian Smith wrested early advantage for Wellington as off spin and leg spin combined in tandem for the Red Blacks.

Through Hobson, who compiled 75 not out in 43 balls with seven fours and three sixes, together with keeper Williamson (39 in 23 balls with four fours and three sixes) and skipper Giddings (34 in 18 balls with three fours and two sixes), Swindon retained a hand in the game, but Wellington were always just a bit too far ahead of their rivals.

A score of 140-3 ended up being 195-9 as Nathan Yarde with a splendid 4-32 in four overs of leg spin and Luke Desave with his 'new' medium pace style took 2-24 in three overs to make sure Wellington's name will be the one on the new piece of silverware.
