WELLINGTON Cricket Club are gearing up to deliver a weekend of great cricket on the field of play and a celebration of all that is good about the club, writes David Derrick.

Two events are planned as Saturday sees all who volunteer their time and give of their efforts, sponsor the club or ‘simply’ support it both on and off the field of play will be recognised with a Cricket Tea at 4p.m.

There will be live music from renowned local duo Bob and Raquel from 8p.m and supper, in the form of an on-site pizza van, will be available after 6p.m. while the cricket features the first team at home to local rivals Taunton in the Somerset Division of the West of England Premier League (12 noon).

Wellington go into the match third in the table, having won their last two matches, the latest being at Temple Cloud where they completed the season’s double over the Bristol side. Star of the show was Wellington all-rounder and opener Luke Desave who scored 103.

Taunton, down in ninth spot, were also in good form last weekend, gaining an eight-wicket home victory over Wembdon.

Sunday sees the Wellington club host the final of the West of England Premier League's Four Regions T20 competition for Tier Three sides, having won through two tri-series events earlier in the season - at Ilminster and Trowbridge to get to this stage.

Wiltshire based side Swindon are the visitors to the Lloyd and Whyte Cricket Ground in a game which starts at 2p.m..

Plenty of entertainment and hospitality will be on offer on the day and with a continued hot and sunny weather forecast to boot this promises to be a wonderful day out at the cricket.
