WELLINGTON'S football supporters will be able to vote for their Player of the Year at the home game against St Blazey in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western League on Saturday, April 12 (3p.m.).

It is Wellington's last home match of the season and they go into the game having accrued 45 points - more than they have done since before Covid.

Although down in 14th place, vice-chairman Graham Apsin said: "We have to look at this as being a good season. This is a tough division with some clubs having far bigger playing budgets."

Wellington will be looking to complete the season's double over St Blazey, having beaten the Cornish outfit 3-1 away in late September.

They were 1-0 down at one stage but took advantage of St Blazey having a player sent off by netting three goals with Phil Mendonca coming off the substitutes' bench to score two late goals. Jake Quick scored an equaliser.

This is Wellington's fourth successive game at the Playing Field, the first three having yielded seven points with wins over Welton Rovers (3-1) and Street (3-2) and a draw against Saltash United (1-1).

Wellington Reserves and the club's A team are without games this weekend.

Meanwhile, Wellington Reds, the footballing section of the local cricket club, will be looking to maintain their bid for promotion in the first division of the West Country Drainage Services Taunton Saturday League, when they play away to second-placed Alcombe Rovers, having already beaten their rivals three times this season.

Reds are lying 3rd in the table, with the same number of points as Rovers who have a superior goal difference.

Moortown will be back in action in the first division of the Somerset Sunday League when they play at home to second-placed Mariners at Court Fields (10.45p.m.).
