JACK Bryant scored four goals as Wellington side Moortown St Malachy’s made a winning start in the second division of the Somerset Sunday Football League, beating Spartans 4-1 in a rearranged match at the Playing Field.

Bryant latched on to a ball from Ben Evett to put Moortown ahead in the 16th minute, rounding the keeper, and added a second after good play by Tom Gibson. Poor defending led to Spartans pulling back a goal back before half time.

Sean Conway intercepted a ball in the penalty box in the second half before Bryant completed his hat-trick while the Spartans’ keeper made a good save from Brad Ski and Bryant followed up to score a fourth.

Moortown have another home game on Sunday, September 6, when they play Strong Mentality on Pitch Two at the Playing Field with a 10.30a.m. kick-off.

Strong Mentality lost their opening match 7-1 at home to Northwalls United.
