WELLINGTON will be back in action at Wells in the Premier Division of the Jewson Western Football League on Saturday, August 29 - after two postponements.

Wellington's game at Portishead in midweek was called off due to 'unforeseen circumstances' while their fixture at Torpoint last Saturday was also postponed for the same reason.

It follows the shock departure of club chairman Mike Hall, who had been running the team in the absence of a manager, after 14 years in the job, saying he could no longer give the role 'the time, energy and commitment it deserves.'

He said: "I believe the club deserves a chairman who has the capacity and energy to give it the attention it needs, and I feel the right thing for both me and the club is for me to step aside."

A club spokesperson said this week: "We are looking forward to getting back to action at Wells on Saturday (Aug 29).

"We are putting together a team of people to run the side in the short-term and are still working towards a long-term solution."

Wellington are bottom of the Premier Division, having lost all four of their matches, while Wells City are 14th, having taken four points from their opening five games.

Wellington Reserves, who gained a 4-0 away win over Crediton United Reserves in their opening match in the Premier Division of the Devon & Exeter League, are without a game.

Wellington A start their fixtures in Division One of the Taunton Saturday League with a home game against Wembdon Reserves on Saturday, Sept 5.

Moortown St Malachy's, who have rejoined the Somerset Sunday League, play their first match away to Spartans this weekend (Aug 30).

Wellington Wildcats' opening game in the first division of the Somerset County Women's League, will be at home to Ilminster Town Ladies Reserves on Sunday, September 6 (2p.m.).
